Josh & Ally Henderson
For the past two summers, I have been serving as an intern with Christ the King Presbyterian Church, a multi-congregational network of churches in the Boston metro area. During the summer of 2016, Ally and I worked closely with one particular congregation, Christ the King Somerville (CTKS). Our time serving with CTKS was a wonderful ministry experience and greatly helpful in further confirming our sense of call to a secular context such as Boston. Much to our excitement, we will be returning to serve with Christ the King Somerville this summer!
Somerville is a densely populated city of around 80,000 people and sits two miles north of downtown Boston. Over the last several years, Somerville has become one the most desirable places for graduate students, young professionals, artists, and young families to live in the Boston area. Somerville is also home to a diverse and vibrant immigrant community. As Somerville has become one of the cultural and progressive hubs of Boston, it clearly embodies the highly secularized beliefs and attitudes of greater Boston. The city has a clear need for the truth and hope of the gospel.
Christ the King Somerville is one the most recent church plants in the CTK network, and it has been great to see the Lord work through CTKS to reach the city. The church is growing and several people have come to faith in Christ recently. We feel both humbled and encouraged to continue working with the warm and loving community at CTKS. This summer, I will again serve as a church-planting intern for two months, which will involve preaching, assisting with discussion groups, and building relationships with people and organizations around the city. We are greatly looking forward to continue building upon the work we have previously done in Somerville. Ally and I will also begin more formal discussions this summer about a more permanent position with CTK upon our graduation in 2018.
Our ministry in Boston is a missional endeavor and is simply not possible without the prayer and financial support of our community! In order to make this summer a reality, we need your partnership.
We need your partnership in prayer. Please pray for the advancement of the Kingdom in Somerville and the Boston area. We hope to help people come to faith through CTKS and for its congregation to thrive in the gospel. Also, please pray for clarity and direction in our calling as we continue working with CTKS.
We also need your partnership financially. We are seeking to raise $4,900 to cover living and ministry expenses for the summer. We are seeking to be fully funded by the end of May.
We are very excited for this opportunity to partner with you and we look forward to keeping you updated on our summer in Boston.
Grace and Peace,
Josh and Ally Henderson
