Spring Campaign Overview
Last May, we initiated a month-long campaign at Christ the King to explore the biblical themes of stewardship and generosity. Rick Downs preached a series of sermons about idolatry, freedom, generosity and contentment. The campaign also included an invitation to give financially to help support the church’s vision for church planting.
God worked in our hearts and the church responded amazingly. Outwardly, there was overwhelming financial giving. Inwardly, God forged new convictions about the stewardship of our lives and resources.
The financial giving from the campaign was used to fund CTK’s Church Planting Center and build momentum in our church planting efforts.
We've decided to take up the topic of stewardship again this year. Similar to last year, we'll hear preaching on generosity, have visits to community groups, pray, and invite you to participate financially. We'll also have a two-part Adult Ed class (in Cambridge) with an update and overview of church planting.
Our stewardship initiative continues to be focused on church planting, to see more and more people reached for the gospel in their own communities all around Boston. Because we are planting churches, we are seeing people who have never before heard the good news about Jesus, who have never imagined that God could be so gracious, who have never been part of a loving and nurturing gospel-community—hear, believe, and experience God’s love and become part of his kingdom-community.
As God’s people, we are called to support His church. In the Old Testament scriptures, Israel was to give a tenth (“tithe”) of their income to support the ministry. This practice still continues within the church today as a baseline for giving. This regular giving is critical to support the ongoing ministry of the church.
The stewardship initiative, however, is a call to extraordinary financial giving. In addition to your regular tithes and offerings, we’re inviting you to make a cheerful, prayerful, and sacrificial financial commitment to help advance the vision of the church.
Our overall goal for this year is $100,000. Would you join us, first by praying and reflecting on the grace of God; and then by committing to give financially?
We trust this stewardship month will remind you of the inexpressible gift of God's surpassing grace (2 Cor. 9:14-15) and will challenge and increase your faith—for the glory of God and the advancement of His kingdom.
